The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) and IHS Partnership
The Institution of Structural Engineers is the world’s leading professional body for structural engineering. Founded in 1908, the Institution now has more than 22,000 members in 109 countries. Its aim is to promote excellence in structural engineering, and its members are recognised as leaders for their technical and professional expertise.
The Institution of Structural Engineers has a dual role and twin aims; those of a learned society and as a qualifying body for the profession. Its aims are 'to promote the science and art of structural engineering and the achievement of excellence in construction, and to further the education and competence of its members.
The Institution of Structural Engineers develops critical publications, such as:
- Standard method of detailing structural concrete
- Design recommendations for multi-storey and underground car parks
- Appraisal of existing structures
- Manual for the design of plain masonry in building structures
- Design and construction of deep basements including cut-and-cover structures
