The SCI and IHS Joint Venture

SCIThe partnership with SCI allows IHS to include a wide range of SCI technical guidance and design data information in The Construction Information Service.

The Steel Construction Institute (SCI) is an independent, member-based organisation.  As an independent member-based organisation, The Steel Construction Institute (SCI) develops and promotes the effective use of steel in construction by disseminating design guidance through publications (currently over 250 titles), courses, advisory bureau and state of the art electronic information systems.  Over 20 years SCI’s research and development activities have covered all aspects of steel construction including multi-storey and industrial buildings, bridges, infrastructure applications and offshore structures. 

SCI value addition to its customers and members lies in its ability to provide comprehensive guidance on structural design, fire engineering, sustainable construction, architectural design, building physics and information technology.

The Construction Information Service links directly to SCI services, including:-

  • Steelbiz a technical library for steel construction with more than 3,600 additional publications or to BS 5950-1:2000 a full interpretation of the current standard with worked examples, design paths & interactive flowcharts and other tools
  • Access Steel that covers all aspects of designing to Eurocode 3 for
    steel and Eurocode 4 for composite construction.

SCI and IHS working in partnership to deliver critical information for surveyors, architects, fabricators, design practitioners, engineers and graduates, structural engineers, civil engineers, contractors.
