The TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and IHS Partnership
IHS works in partnership with TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) to include a wide range of TRL reports, leaflets, technical guidance and design data in The Construction Information Service (CIS).
TRL provides independent and impartial world class research, consultancy, advice and testing for all aspects of transport.
Working with customers from both the public and private sectors TRL’s research expertise covers all aspects of transportation, vehicles performance and safety, environmental impact, sustainability and transport Infrastructure. From low-volume surveys to green travel plans, from complex multi-modal studies to policy development in the high-tech world of real time journey planning using intelligent transport systems, TRL is at the forefront, not only of today’s transport, but of what is to come in the future.
Originally established in 1933 as part of the UK Government, TRL privatised in 1996 to become a fully independent private company. TRL is wholly owned by the Transport Research Foundation (TRF), a non-profit distributing foundation with no share holders, enabling profits made by TRL to be passed to TRF and re-invested in scientific research. TRF is comprised of over 80 sector members from the transport industry ensuring TRL continues to undertake the high quality research it is renowned for.
