IHS/SCI Launch Euro Blue Book

Essential Tool for On-line Steel Designers

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (7th April 2009) – IHS and SCI develop online Euro Blue Book an essential tool for on line steel designers.

The IHS/SCI Euro Blue Book gives section properties and member capacities in tabular form for use in design, to the new pan-European design standards for structural steel, BS EN 1993-1:2007.

Adrian Gibson, IHS Vice President EMEA Sales and Marketing explained, “The IHS/SCI Euro Blue Book has been created to improve the design steel structure process for our customers. The onset of Eurocodes has resulted in significant technical changes to steelwork design which is where the Blue Book will aid designers in ensuring they are meeting the standards.”

“The new electronic product represents a major advance in scheme design through the use of Euro Blue Book tables.” Continued Gibson, “Designers can now customize their own blue book. Which enables them to generate bespoke tables for particular elements of geometries and then store the tables by project and add electronic post-it notes.”

The IHS/SCI Euro Blue Book is customizable, users are able to choose to show only certain section ranges including the Corus Advance® and ‘BS’ standard range. They may select certain members from the section range and only certain design behaviours from the range. The Euro Blue Book guidance notes are contextually linked to the information which will assist designers in understanding the capacity figures represented. The product is powered by SCI engineering.

The IHS/SCI alliance enables new SCI material to be put immediately in The Construction Information Service which is a tool that delivers key technical information critical to all construction projects in one on-line package. Developed by IHS and NBS, The Construction Information Service provides instant full-text access to current regulations, standards, technical advice and a vast array of related news and briefings.
